Case study: over 900 camera packages Netherlands road tunnels

Background – tunnel environment requirement for Coen, Velser and Koning Willem-Alexander road tunnels

 –  limited available space in the tunnel to mount camera

 –  harsh environment: conventional, lower-quality cameras packages need replacing within 1 to 2 years

 –  extreme wind and dust abrasion forces due to passing traffic (especially lorries and trucks)

 –  low level of maintenance required due to limited access to the camera

 –  extreme fast swapping time in case of replacement

The Ministry of Infrastructure selected Akkadia’s Aker 1000 PTZ tunnel camera packages because:

 –  extremely ruggedised due to materials used: stainless steel A316Ti, IP68 (tested - submersed in 25cm water for                      4½ months)

 –  scratch-free, fused quartz glass front cover with high temperature resistance and light intake enhancement

 –  industrial connector with 1 umbilical cable combining mains, video and data

 –  extremely easy to install especially for maintenance; average swap-time of less than 7 minutes

 –  camera enclosure accommodates up to 128mm zoom lenses inclusive of a normal sized ½" CCD camera

 –  nanotechnology on glass front avoids using wipers

Contract win argument:

Lowest Total Cost of Ownership & Utilisation (TCO/U) over 15 years tunnel system’s lifecycle
